Duke Energy Resignations

Over the last few weeks, many reports have come forward about corruption within Duke Energy. More recently, multiple top executives and a state official have resigned from their positions. Officials are worried that the state worker was helping get Duke plans approved. Should the punishments be more severe other than simply losing their job?

I think that the punishments were fit. However, I think any proposals that the official may have forced to ge passed should be reviewed again by someone else. I think it was right to fire them.

WEEK FIFTEEN BLOG

It is a well-known fact that the United States is in the middle of a recession. However, recent reports have shown that holiday sales have gone up. Should people be spending on uneeded items in the midst of a recession?

I think this spending is a good thing. It shows that the citizens of the UNited States are able to fight through hard times. This extra holiday buying also enabled businesses to prosper in these hard times.

Obama blog

In his interview with 60 minutes, President Obama talked a lot about his first two years in office. He eblaborates on his successes and failures, and pointed out things he is doing to improve his office. A key focus in the discussion was the conflicting views of the Republicans.

I think Obama recieved the criticism well. He understood that he has made some mistakes, but has a plan to move forward. He wants to converse with his political opponents to compromise and key issues. I think he is doing well in hard economic times that are not his fault, but are often blamed on him.

Southport Fight

2 girls at Southport recently got in a fight during school. One girl, age 17, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after sustaining serious injuries from a 15 year old girl. What do you think the punishment should be for both the girls involved? Should there be any punishment at all if they claimed it was self-defense?

I think the girls should recieve punishment. They fought on school property, and it was a serious fight, not just a slap in the face. The fact that a girl had to go to the hospital proves that.

WEEK TWELVE

A  lot of famous people have mental health problems. Mental health problems will happen in life, but some feel that celebrities have a higher chance of having issues. This is seen most recently in the case of Demi Lovato, disney channel superstar. Do you think being famous causes mental problems?

I do not think being famous causes mental problems. I feel like some celebrities have a lot to deal with and as a result need help. However, normal people go to rehab too, but the media just doesnt make a huge deal of it.

WEEK 11

An ex-carmel basketball player, Scott Laskowski, will avoid jail. He will testify in court to avoid going to jail. His testimoney in court may go against his fellow players. SHould anyone who agrees to testify not have to go to jail?

I do not think it is fair to let one person not go to jail. If that were the case, then all the players would volunteer to testify in order to escape jial time.

WEEK TEN

United States swimmer Fran Crippen died while participating in a 10-kilometer race. The race was held in open water with a temperature of 84 degrees. Did the hot water cause his death, and should it be allowed?

Some of the other atheletes complained about the water's temperature. This obviously means that the hot water played a huge role in the death. I think tests should be done to find how the body reacts to hot water when under intense exertion.

WEEK NINE BLOG

A 300 pound chimpanzee escaped from its chains last Tuesday. The ape attacked a police car, damaging the front windshield and hood. The owner was eventually able to coax it into its cage after a failed tranquilizer attempt.

I think it is crazy to have an animal like this as a pet. These animals are meant for the wild and are not domestic creatures. If you have a pet like this you should be required to have safety precautions that would prevent things like this from happening.
